Software Engineer Manager - Customer Core Platforms (Remote)

Position Purpose:

As the Engineering Manager for Customer Core Platforms (SVOC/Profile, Customer Info Commons, Wallet, and Enterprise Preference Center), you will lead a team of 10 engineers across four foundational systems serving DIY and ~20M Pro customers, directly enabling identity, payments, preferences, and privacy across The Home Depot's omnichannel experience. You will be responsible for managing ~180 repos across these high-scale enterprise platforms while driving delivery on multiple Top 40 initiatives including Pro Trade Credit, Dynamic Pricing, eProcurement, Complex Delivery, and B2B 3.0.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers while partnering daily with Product Managers and Principals to align strategy, plan capacity, and execute quarterly commitments. You will champion AI-forward engineering as a core team practice — driving measurable AI adoption through GitHub Copilot, Gemini Enterprise, and Claude, and holding the team accountable to engineering metrics including AI coding usage, PR cycle time, and Code Climate velocity. You will be comfortable with agentic workflows, MCP integrations, and responsible AI governance at enterprise scale.
In addition, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable delivery across a modern technology stack including Java, Spring Boot, GCP, Cassandra, and distributed search platforms (Solr, Elasticsearch, MongoDB Atlas). You will drive continuous improvement in observability instrumentation, monitoring and alerting, platform resiliency, and cloud cost optimization across all platforms. KTLO commitments include Secure Flow Migration, Java/Spring Boot upgrades, GCP N4 modernization, and Vault migration. The Engineering Manager must exhibit the ability to lead through ambiguity, drive change management, manage cross-team dependencies, and continuously improve engineering processes across a large, distributed platform portfolio.


Key Responsibilities:

  • 30% Delivery & Execution:
  • Collaborates and pairs with product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions
  • Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met
  • Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases
  • Works with vendors and partners for the successful implementation of critical tooling and platforms
  • Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively
  • Contributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, and engineering empowerment
  • Evaluates new technologies for adoption across the enterprise
  • Participates in and leads review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterprise
  • Fills in on product teams for engineers who are out of the office
  • 10% Support & Enablement:
  • Fields questions from engineers, product teams, or support teams
  • Monitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teams
  • Provides application support for software running in production
  • Acts as a technical escalation point for the engineers on the team

Travel Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering leadership experience with Java, Spring Boot, GCP, Cassandra, cloud cost optimizations and distributed search platforms (Solr/elastic/mongo)
  • Experience managing large-scale foundational customer platform portfolios with AI-PDLC
  • Strong people leadership with experience managing 10+ direct reports
  • Proven capacity planning and quarterly commitment management in collaboration with Product teams and Principals
  • Hands-on AI-forward leader with experience in GitHub Copilot, Gemini Enterprise, and Claude, driving AI adoption as a measurable engineering metric including AI coding usage, PR cycle time, and balanced team insights through Code Climate velocity metrics
  • Comfortable with agentic workflows, MCP integrations, and responsible AI governance at enterprise scale
