<h2>About JerseySTEM</h2> <p><strong>All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.</strong>JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.</p> <p>Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a <strong>minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week </strong>and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.</p> <h2>Overview</h2> <p><strong>This is a pro-bono volunteer position.</strong></p> <p> </p> <p>JERSEYSTEM is a grassroots 501(c) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (“STEM”) education to 5th-8th grade girls in New Jersey underserved communities.</p> <p> </p> <p>We partner with socially responsible companies and their employees, youth organizations in underserved communities, and civic-minded college students and universities. Together we develop and deliver innovative, hands-on, and online after school projects and inquiry-based learning opportunities that develop teamwork, 21st-century problem-solving skills, and self-esteem.</p> <p> </p> <p>The <strong>Development Department Head</strong> provides leadership, direction and planning to identify, reach out to and partner with Corporations, Grantmaking Foundations, Government agencies, Individuals, or other organizations that can fund JerseySTEM’s mission.</p> <h2>Responsibilities</h2> <ul> <li>Manage a team of 4-5 direct reports in charge of different teams: Corporate Partnership Development, Corporate Partnership Success, and Grants.</li> <li>Report to the board of directors or the Executive Board Member overseeing DEVT </li> <li>Interact with peer department heads </li> <ul> <li>With COME (Community Engagement) and COLE (College ENgagement) to coordinate the geographic focus for the given season</li> <li>with HUCA to hire new/replacements</li> <li>with FINA for the budget of the department</li> <li>With MKTG for the marketing needs of the department</li> </ul> <li>Work to continuously improve and streamline JerseySTEM’s approach to soliciting donations. </li> <li>Represents DEVT at the Monthly Leadership Team. Participate in the leadership team activities of budgeting/planning and reporting</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Mandatory Meetings:</li> <ul> <li>Conduct/Attend virtual  team meetings <strong>weekly</strong> : (Sundays 5pm EST as of 5/1/2013)</li> <li><strong>Monthly</strong> Department Heads Meetings(2nd Thursday 7:30pm)</li> <li><strong>Quarterly</strong> board Meeting (Last Wednesday 7:30pm)</li> </ul> </ul> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <ul> <li>Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap</li> <li>Strong leadership/team building skills</li> <li>Resourceful, can-do attitude</li> <li>Experience with networking with corporations and other potential donor organizations</li> <li>Outreach experience preferred</li> <li>Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others</li> <li>Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)</li> <li>Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week</li> </ul>
